Are you leveraging Fibre Channel (FC) in your environment while you transition over to Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)? Or maybe you're still using disk drives even though you plan on moving to solid-state drives (SSDs). While these technologies are no longer cutting edge, the fact is many storage infrastructures still rely on them every day and vendors still produce them.
In this interview, Greg Schulz, founder and senior analyst of the Storage I/O group, classifies popular technologies such as solid-state drives, RAID and FC as "zombie" technologies. Why? These are already set to become part of standard storage infrastructures, says Schulz, and are too old to be considered fresh. But while many consider these technologies to be stale, users should expect to see them in their everyday lives.
