CA to sublimate XOsoft brand, launch ARCserve 15 in April

CA’s 2006 acquisition of XOsoft will slide further into memory come April, when the company stops using its brand. ARCServe, which CA acquired when it bought Cheyenne in 1996, will instead emerge triumphant when the company launches version 15 of its flagship ARCserve product in April.

“[XOsoft] came with some level of brand recognition,” said Vicki Batka, Director of CA’s Recovery Management Business Unit. “We are looking to the ARCServe brand come April.”

Greater integration between XOsoft’s replication tools and ARCserve can also be expected.

“XOsoft was a great standalone product and worked well with us, but maybe better with competitors [products],” Batka said. “Now we have an opportunity to show it is very powerful when attached to ARCserve.”

Another initiative expected to be unveiled in April is new partnerships with managed services providers using CA products to automate backup for their clients. Batka said the company currently works with Datacom and Fujitsu for such services in Australia, but expects to announce more partners. Some will target small businesses with up to 20 employees while others will service medium-sized businesses.

April will also see the release of ARCserve disk-to-disk, a product currently available for download in beta form.
