Aussie Clive Gold to head SNIA's International Steering Committee

The Deputy Chair of SNIA ANZ will head the organisation's International Steering Committee.

Australian Clive Gold has been appointed the Chair of the Storage Networking Industry Association’s (SNIA’s) International Steering Committee.

Gold, whose day job is with EMC, is also deputy Chair of SNIA’s Australia/New Zealand Chapter. The role as Chair of the International Steering Committee will see Gold lead the organisation’s efforts outside the USA.

Gold won the position after a vote among the seven SNIA chapters based outside the USA. The International Steering Committee was established by SNIA ANZ’s previous Chairman, Jacob Van der Eyk.

“This is an interesting time because SNIA is going from a US based standards committee to a global organisation,” Gold said, adding that he sees two main activities as the priority for his time in the role.

“One is education. SNIA’s prime asset is knowledge and intellectual property (IP) and spreading it is our prime goal. So I want to create and disseminate IP to meet the needs of users globally.”

Gold’s other goal is ensuring SNIA members get value from joining the association.

One way of adding value he is exploring is allowing remote access to SNIA’s technology centre. “We want to leverage that remotely and help people who want to see how storage technology works, or practice things when they are sitting for certifications,” he said.

Simon Sharwood is a non-executive director of SNIA ANZ.
